Women's Conference

Today was our stake Women's Conference.  We had two amazing speakers Wendy Watson Nelson and Sheri Dew.  It was one of those things that has been on my calendar for a long time and I got babysitters about a month ago to be sure I could go.  As the date got closer more things kept coming up and I was almost ready to give up on going.  Then last Sunday I had been reading in the Ensign about the having oil in our lamps and I recommited to go.  I knew I needed this.  I don't get much "oil" on Sundays as I have a 15 month old that I spend all 3 hours walking the halls with... but we all do it at some point, right?  Anyways, last night I felt so overwhelmed when I thought about Sat. and trying to get to Conference and all other places the kids and I needed to be that I was very close to not going.  And again the spirit reminded me I need this... so I went.

I really did need to her the message that was given today and to feel the spirit.  I am so glad that I took the time to go and fill my lamp.  Sister Nelson's talk reminded me that I really need to be an active paticipent in my spiritual life.  She said that she always goes to General Conference with a question for the Lord.  I am really looking forward to Conference in 5 weeks and I plan on asking the Lord a question and then listening for the answer.
Sister Nelson had a great "idea" in one of her examples and I am going to start doing right away with my own children.  During family scripture study each kids has their own set of scriptures (even those that cannot read yet) and a highlighter.  I think it is a great idea!

Sister Dew was wonderful as always.  She shared the story of her Grandparents living in the middle of the "dust bowel" and sticking with their farm even though it was a hard life.  She said it took them about 30 years to have success on that farm but they stayed with it.  This story just reminded me how much life is not always about what is going to be easier or bring rewards quickly sometimes life is just hard work and I think the Lord expects us to stick it out and do our best.  I hope that I can just do my best and that my Faith in Christ is enough to make up the difference.

I plan to go to UT for WC to fill my lamp... I think I need a lot more oil:)  Anyone want to make a trip to UT?

I've done the going to Utah for Women's Conference thing a three times and enjoyed it, but right now it just sounds like work!

You are so lucky that you had Sheri Dew there speaking...I am jealous! Wendy Watson is good, too. How did you guys get them?

I'm glad you had a good day and filled your cup a bit.

I really enjoyed the conference too. So many great things were said. I would love to get away to WC, but just don't see how it's possible...maybe someday.

I was toying around with going to WC but I decided to give it up to fly up there this weekend for my cousins wife's funeral instead. I'm glad that I'll be there with family for the funeral though I'll miss being there personally for WC. I'll just have to see it on TV. I loved the Women's conference on Saturday too! I've used it already.

Heather- Go to my blog and click on the blog "Frog and Toad Are Still Friends" in "Blogs I Like to Hop" on my side bar. She has posted a great bunch of ideas for crafting with kids the ages of yours. Then scroll down another post or two and check out her ideas for a rainy day. Very creative!
